Internal Medicine is a field of medicine that studies non-surgical diseases.

 

What is Endocrinology ?

Endocrinology is a field of medicine that studies the development, functions and diseases of the endocrine glands (glands with internal secretion): pituitary gland, thyroid gland, parathyroid glands, the Langerhans’ islets of pancreas, ovaries, testes (during intra-uterine life, puberty, adulthood and aging).

 

What are Metabolic Diseases ?

Metabolic diseases are diseases treating different perturbations of metabolism (whole chemical modifications taking place in organism and serving to produce energy, to form, maintain and repair tissues and to elaborate some substances, such as hormones, enzymes, antibodies etc.
Metabolic diseases can be hereditary or acquired; can be provoked by an endocrine or dietary abnormality, by interruption of a synthesis channel or by absence of some enzymes. They can upset the balance of carbohydrates (examples: diabetes mellitus, galactosaemia, glycogenic disease), of lipids (examples: obesity, dyslipoprotenimias: hypercholesterolemia, hypertriglycerolemia) of nucleotides (example: gout), of proteins (example: aminoacidopathies), balance of water, calcium, vitamines etc.
